Most of the ones that played the other night have been out on loan quite a bit so difficult to judge them on seeing the U23's play.
I agree they should be given a chance, I just wish it'd be done in a way that gives them the best chance of succeeding, which I don't think has been the way we have being doing it for quite some time.

I've watched the U23s quite a bit this past two years, obviously a big step up but they play decent football, arguably much better than the first team. I'm not saying replace the whole first team with the u23s but there are a number I think should be persevered with, especially with an owner like ours who's clearly decided to spend the bare minimum on new recruits

I'm basing this purely on the Shrewsbury games, by the way.
I'd have expected Oxford to have performed very well against a team of this level and he didn't at all.
Raw deal for Martinez up against those centre halves but he really tried.

Burke- jury out Cullen- promising Oxford- putting in no effort by the looks of it. Embarrassing to be yanked off the pitch in that game with his supposed talent. Martinez- willing but didn't get much joy. Jury out.

I'm not saying you're wrong Miike, but how often have you seen them play to come up with that conclusion?
Also, I assume you think Rice is decent too?

I like Burke, the rest are average but then so are many of our high earning senior players so I think they could quite easily perform the same mediocre performances on a lot less money

AKA ERNIE 11:32 ~
I think you've called that exactly right
Apart from Declan Rice, who as far as I'm concerned at least, has already made the grade & more, Cullen looks a good prospect who I'm sure will do ok, given more game time

would make sense, see Samuelsen going on loan yesterday which again makes sense as he's behind both Holland and Hacksa it seems

Hopefully it means Moyes has plans for him and he wanted to play the players he was thinking of sending away (Rice did not play the second game, for instance.)

Do you think that any player is told not to make mistakes?
I would imagine they were just being overly cautious, knowing that their first team involvement probably hinged on decent performances, and certainly not looking our of their depth and nervous.

My impression is they seem to have to think before acting. In this short process of time they've lost the initiative. When Nobes came on I remember him swiftly first touching a ball out left to Arthur and it moved the whole play really quickly. I would suggest this is an issue with all average football of course but it was very clear with these lads. I assume they were told not to make a mistake which means a bit more care is probably taken?

That has been a decent approach under Moyes.
That said, I don't think Burke did enough for me to say he would not just sit and he was getting more games than Cullen at Bolton.

With respect in the second game the seniors were just as average for 70 minutes.
Yep - but playing with inexperienced kids can't help.
It's been this way for far too long and a big reason I believe as to why we haven't seen any kids break through since Tomkins?

Exactly what they have done with Declan Rice and he has been able to show what he can do.
Would like to see Burke & Cullen kept and given the sale treatment.

Agree
That said, pretty hard to do if you are looking at relegation or even at the other end, looking a Europe. We have been doing one of the two for good parts of the last three seasons.
